At the place where the first Neanderthal was found more than 160 years ago, one of the most modern interactive museums is waiting for you today. Since 1996, the history of mankind of the last four million years has been presented interactively in the almost oval building of the Neanderthal Museum. The exhibition was extensively overhauled and modernised in 2016. The long journey of mankind from the savannahs of Africa to today's big cities is reconstructed with scientific methods based on the fossils found. The Neander Valley around the museum also invites you on a discovery tour. Here you can visit the sites where the first Neanderthal inhabitants were found and observe animals in the wildlife enclosure. An extensive art trail offers you the opportunity to admire the sculptures that invite visitors to self-reflect on human nature. The museum is very well known around Düsseldorf.
One of the most modern museums in Europe!
In the extensive outdoor enclosures, the Neanderthal Nature Conservation Society has made it its task to keep animals from the Ice Age in a species-appropriate manner. Today, for example, bison, aurochs and tarpans live in the large areas at Neandertaler. You have the unique opportunity to observe animals that became extinct in Europe hundreds of years ago. Our ancestors lived together with these animals millions of years ago. The guided tours impart impressive knowledge about the world of our ancestors. A visit to Neanderthal will be an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
