The sky's the limit
Rottweil, situated near the edge of the Black Forest, has a rich medieval history and a traditional carnival, making it the oldest city in Baden-Würrtenberg. Despite its long history, innovation hasn’t been stagnant in this charming town. Rottweil is home to one of the tallest elevator testing towers in the world, established by Thyssenkrupp in 2017 (you might have seen their name on escalators as well).
The Thyssenkrupp Test Tower is an innovation centre that functions as a laboratory for testing new elevator technologies developed by Thyssenkrupp. The tower is a concrete cylinder that stands 246 meters tall (making it Europe’s tallest elevator tower) and has 12 shafts inside used for testing new elevator systems, including those with horizontal and angled movement. It's also home to the MULTI, the world’s first ropeless and horizontal elevator. Once you've had enough fun testing, you can enjoy some stunning panoramic views from the top of the tower. The 360-degree observation platform is located at an altitude of 232 meters, making it the highest point in the region. The tower's unique design and glass-fibre exterior covering have won many awards over the years, including the Industrial Construction Award and the German Engineering Construction Award. And if you're feeling particularly sporty, you can even participate in the TK Towerrun, in which you climb 1,390 steps to the top of the tower. Only for the brave!
