1. Hunting lodge at Stupinigi

Distance from Turin: approx. 11 km

This enchanting Rococo-style mansion stands just a stone's throw from the historic centre of Turin and was used by kings and queens of Italy for short stays during hunting. Surrounded by woods, the palace welcomes you with its long, majestic row of cypresses. 2. Palace of Venaria

Distance from Turin: about 13 km

The core of the villa was built in 1600 by Duke Carlo Amedeo of Savoy. However, the interior flats had continuous modernisation. Walk through the 80 metres long Central Gallery with its 44 windows. What was supposed to be just a connecting corridor turned out to be a masterpiece of architect Juvarra, with the refined decorations of the wide vaulted ceiling and the chequered marble floor.

3. Sacra di San Michele

Distance from Turin: about 40 km

It is one of the most fascinating and mysterious places in Piedmont. This abbey was built at the end of the 10th century on top of Mount Pirchiriano, 1,000 metres above sea level. From its position it offers a unique panorama over the Susa Valley. The abbey hosts the tombs of members of the Savoy royal family and in the Middle Ages was part of a network of pilgrimage routes dedicated to St Michael the Archangel.

Distance from Turin: about 53 km

Centre of Canavese, this medieval town owes its fame to the famous Carnival. In addition to the parade in historical costumes, the event culminates in the Battle of the Oranges, when a fun and festive game takes place with oranges being thrown between the floats that cross the town. Ivrea is also worth a visit for its castle with its red towers and the large Roman amphitheatre.

6. Alba and the Langhe
